70 Series Battery Power System

Rack Mounted

Factory-Packaged, Non-Stop DC Power for Telecom.

70 Series Battery Power System

bulletEliminates telecommunication failure - battery backup provides uninterrupted power despite failure of commercial power.
bulletSaves rack space and money - complete DC power system mounts in a 19" or 23" rack with telecom equipment.
bulletMakes installation easy - simple plug-together design saves time and eliminates errors.
bulletProvides single system responsibility - charger, battery, and distribution circuits are factory packaged and fully tested.
bulletOffers a safer system - no exposed battery terminals, AC voltage, or barrier strips.
bulletOperates worldwide - standard 50/60 Hz, 115/230 volt input.
bulletExtends battery life and performance - optional temperature compensation eliminates the No. 1 cause of battery failure in harsh environments.

Battery Power System Highlights

SENS 70 Series Battery Power System (BPS) is the ideal DC source with battery backup for microwave and micro-cellular network repeaters. The entire BPS shares a 19" or 23" rack with the equipment being powered, saving space and money.

SENS BPS is flexible. Additional charger and/or battery capacity can easily be added to systems already in operation.

SENS BPS offers three DC power distribution options: bulk output, six-circuit distribution panel located in the charger, or 2 six-circuit distribution panels located in a separate distribution module.

The SENS 70 Series BPS is in use by major OEMs and telecommunications authorities, and support voice and data transmissions on nearly every continent.

Choose the Right Battery Power System

Use the following three steps to find the BPS part number:
1. Decide what DC voltage, charger redundancy and power distribution options you require.

2. Then, refer to the System Tables to find the correct system number at the intersection of your required ampere load and battery backup time. If you require a 12-volt system, contact the factory for a quotation.

3. Specify optional features as line items.

EXAMPLE:
You require a 24-volt system with redundant chargers and multiple distribution circuits to supply 12 amps for 8 hours.

Decide first whether the separate distribution module is needed. Although a separate module adds slightly to system size and cost, it offers the greatest flexibility and system integrity. In this example, assume the separate distribution module is needed.

  1. Refer to the 24 Volt System Tables.
  2. Find Table J (redundant chargers and separate distribution module).
  3. Find the intersection of 12 amps and 8 hours. The correct part number is 742NF-22065-1A1(15A). This system requires 15 rack units (26.25" or 667 mm) and includes two 15 amp chargers, one battery pack with a 65 AH battery and one distribution module.

Specifications

System Configuration
The BPS includes one or more rack-mounted modules, depending on system power and battery reserve time. All modules plug together easily using polarity-protected cables supplied with the system. Modules can be distributed in separate racks, if required. 48, 24 and 12 volt systems are available with single or redundant chargers, DC distribution circuits and low-volt load disconnect.

Charger/Rectifier
The charger/rectifier is SENS CM (see CM data sheet), offering 8 or 15 ampere output. Typical recharge time is less than 12 hours with full load.

Battery Pack

bulletBatteries are located inside the charger or, in higher-powered systems, in a separate 10.44" high battery pack.
bulletVentilated, heavy-gauge, clear-anodized aluminum housing matches charger housing.
bulletTwo independently fused (30A) DC receptacles.
bulletFits up to four 90 AH, 12 volt batteries.
bulletBatteries loaded on site. Factory loading of batteries optional (requires heavy lifting on-site).

Battery
Sealed lead-acid batteries require only periodic load tests. Optional charger temperature compensation is recommended for operation below 10 degrees C and above 30 degrees C. Battery sizes assume 20 C ambient temperature and an end voltage of 1.75 volts per cell.

Distribution Unit/Low-Volt Load Disconnect
DC distribution and a low-volt load disconnect (LVD) units are available as follows:

bulletSix-circuit distribution unit inside each charger, or
bullet2 each six-circuit distribution units (DU) in a separate distribution module. Each DU can be configured to operate from different DC buses, or one common DC bus.
bullet5A max per circuit, 20A max total. 5A GMT indicating type fuses supplied.
bulletAlarms:
- "Fuse blown" indicated by LED and Form C contact.
- "Load disconnect imminent" indicated by LED.
- "Load disconnected" indicated by LED.

bulletLVD (prevents permanent battery damage) can be switched out of the circuit if desired.

Connections & Cables

bulletCharger input: 10-foot (3 meters) AC cord with NEMA 5-15P molded plug.
bulletModule interconnection cables: #12 AWG plus ground, with polarity-protected plugs.
bulletDC Output:
- Systems with single-circuit output: 10-foot (3 meters), #12 AWG cable included.
- Systems with distribution: compression terminals accommodate up to #12 AWG.

Optional Features

bulletCharger ammeter and voltmeter (3.5", 89 mm) scale, 2% accuracy.
bulletCharger temperature compensation with remote sensor.
bulletNon-standard input voltage.
bulletFungus proofing of circuit boards.
bulletExport packaging.
bulletFactory loading of batteries (meets seismic Zone 4 requirements).
bulletAdapter brackets for 23" rack mounting.
bulletExtended battery backup (greater than 8 hours).
